what i do for short answers is just learn how to analyse different art forms for short answer and spam them like theres no tomorrow and for the essay i just memorise artists and their artworks/ideas/practices that relatively have the same ideas, e.g i do picasso/abramovic/neshat/salcedo and any question that is slightly related to the political/cultural

What framework do yall reckon you’ll choose for the exam? I’m tossing up between conceptual and frames tbh, I feel like usually the practice ones are usually a bit more niche. Also how many different artists/artworks are you guys referencing??

Hmm I feel like it’s good to always mention that architecture isn’t like traditional art in the way it engages with audiences, bc people both interact with it functionally and as a site of beauty. Try to explore how it interacts with the environment around it too, e.g. does it disrupt a harsh, muted cityscape with organic, fluid forms. (e.g. Zaha Hadid). Or is it abstract, acting as a source for audience questioning and wonder? (e.g. Frank Gehry).
I think it’s also very important to reference the materials and how it interacts with the style; often it can reflect the architect’s intentions with their work, e.g. they might repurpose discarded materials to critique modern consumerism (e.g. Chris Fox with the antique wooden escalator design), or they might use traditional/cultural symbols to explore the power of generational memory and cultural heritage (e.g. Do Ho Suh).

Overall the links between material and context are super important, and try to reference specific architectural movements, as they align with the material choice and overall context of the time that gave the architect their intent. Also the idea that architecture is public is very important too; it engages with audiences from a variety of backgrounds, serving as both decoration and function, rather than other art forms that are more accessible to the wealthy. Also, the use of space is important - low ceilings are more inviting and comforting, whereas soaring ceilings are monumental and vast, evoking wonder. Works can either stimulate by contrasting the environment, e.g. mid-century works consisting of sharp lines and manmade materials within a natural setting such as Frank Lloyd Wright, or they can mirror the environment they are situated in, e.g. The Sydney Opera House’s roof inspired by waves and organic forms to reflect the waterfront landscape and the beauty of the Australian ocean.

But yeah, try to remember the specific movement, materials as a reflection of intent/movement, space/negative space, architectural forms, public engagement, functionality as well as beauty, and engagement with the environment. Sorry for the tangent! But I hope that all helped

I'm prolly gonna do a frames question, hoping for postmodern or cultural and I have 3 artists, 1 artwork each...

Guys do the essays have to be solely about the framework of the question or can you bring in other ones? For example, if you chose a Frames question, could you still bring in elements of the practice/conceptual framework or would it not really gain any marks?

From what I understand I'm pretty sure it's fine to bring elements from other areas as long as you answer the question and expand on that frame you've chosen, especially for areas such as material and conceptual artist practice since they kinda act as the evidence for your argument if that makes sense

although, lowkey I feel like a lot of the different frameworks and frames and artist practice sorta overlap.. so as long as your argument is fleshed out and extends onto that frame adding other areas is completely fine.
take this with a grain of salt tho im kinda just assuming lmfao
