Hi there,

I've been hunting online but I can't find the last time US altered their interest rates, I know that it's at 1% (November sixth) ... but when was this set? And was it an increase/decrease?

I was wondering because somewhere briefly I read that Interest had been slightly increased in US - and I have no idea where I read it. Just curious if anyone knows really. And the reason I ask is because it ties in with global influences on government policies ... so hmm.

Thanks for any that have an idea :)

i think it was 1.25 --> 1.00%

so theres a 4% diff between us and them = lotsa money for us! hehe

Dont know if it will help but isn't Europe avg'ing 2% so the interest rate differential is pretty high and this opens up for a pretty nice discussion in your ext response.

That it definitely does; thanks saves.the.day!

And Blondie: I was only curious because what US does with their interest rates and their economy, the RBA takes into consideration.

And thanks for the ideas :)

Yeah the US interest rate was previously 1%

the interest rate differential can also be beneficial to australia

yes and no, higher IR will appreciate our dollar, which lowers international competitiveness and increases imports, decreasing exports, blowing up our CAD

but they will also reduce demand for imports, so the effect is lessened..

but increased capital inflow due to higher returns in Australia must be payed back OS as profts/dividends/interest etc on the net income account of the current account, worsening the deficit.
