These are my questions about engineering at unsw:

1.How hard is it to get in?

2.Does anyone actually get in via FEAS?

3.I have no idea what my atar will be but it could potentially be a couple points below the cutoff. Does anyone below the cutoff ever get accepted?

4.Do i have more of a chance if i put flexible fist year over a chosen area?

I'm not a current student, but i will be one next year and have researched quite thoroughly so i'll answer to the best of my ability :)

1. The website says that you need an ATAR equal or greater than 91 to get in, so it's not too hard to get in.

2. I would assume so, why else would the have the program? There's a shortage of engineers, so they probably are trying to get everyone they can get.

3. Yes, because you might be eligible for bonus points by getting band 6s in related subjects such as maths and chemisty. Also, the cut offs change yearly so you can always try.

4. I don't believe so, unless the cut off is lower than the specific engineering degrees.

flexible first year only means you have not decided on choosing a specific major for engineering.
highly recommended to avoid, it tempts you to choose irrelevant first year electives.

yes people do get in via FEAS, and some of those people tend to skip lectures very often, etc.

1. no not really, they accept 75-80's
2. derno what that is
3. see 1
4. no, flexible first yr is kinda redundant since u do same subjects first semester as everyone (bar chemical engineering etc.)

lmao they raised the cutoff to 91.
that explains the FUCKING OVERLOADED CLASSES.
cutoff for 2007 was 85, then 88 for 2008.
but that shows how popular and excellent unsw is.
watch out commerce.

But if they had to raise the cut-off to around 91, doesn't that mean that they must have a high demand and therefore dont take people who get in the 80's?

For Civil:

1. You need to make the cutoff - depends on your ability
2. Not in 2009 (yes in some of the other engineering areas) UAI was too high.
3. Via FEAS if there are places remaining. See 2 or 4.
4. Yes in 2009.

2010 Direct entry ATAR will be 91 (UAI of 90) so this has gone up. This might mean a few at the top of the FEAS list might get in in 2010.
