From answers.com:

An exchange of one thing in return for another, especially relinquishment of one benefit or advantage for another regarded as more desirable.

think about how energy is stored in a transformer.
consider what conservation laws state about energy.
think about what happens in a transformer.

is that too cryptic?

Trade-off relates to the conservation of energy. If you look at my first post, it states "an exchange of one thing in return of another". When voltage is increased, current decreases so that the amount of energy is the same. When you decrease the voltage, the current will increase in place. So, the power in the primary coil= power in the secondary coil.
