rinse out the things with the right liquid before you start
read everything off very carefully
add the stuff until it just goes pink without disappearing - practise doing 1 drop at a time

we're so gonna win it :p

- make sure you don't pour chemicals back into their original containers
- when not in use, make sure your equipment is neatly organised and placed in safe places
- rinse equipment well with the solution that you're going to use in them
- lots and lots of practise
- keep shaking your beaker/conical flask while you're letting the unknown chemical into the acid

Not necessarily. You don't wash the conical flask or the volumetric flask with the solution you are going to put into it because it alters the number of mole of the substance you will put into it. :)

To get to 4 decimal accuracy is much more about experience and luck than any specific skills on the competition day.

Decimal points? Don't you guys use significant figures?

Thank you for so many suggestions, guys

another question about the results- wouldn't be better to use scientific notation (4 sig fig) eg x.xxx*10^n?

No...they ask you to submit in the form x.xxxx, and your score is worked from there.
