When your UAI is being calculated, and your doing 4u of english, do they calculate it based on your marks for:
a) the 2u english component + 8 other units of
b) your best two units of english + 8 other units?

It's your best two units of english and your best eight units from the rest - so if your two other units of English also fall under your best eight then those too will be included.

So if i got something like (assuming all marks are scaled)
eng adv: 50
eng ext1: 90
eng ext2: 90
other 2u sub:90
other 2u sub:90
other 2u sub:90
other 2u sub:90
then the eng adv is not counted rite?

Right. :) That was the main reason why numbers for Eng Ext2 shot up a fair bit this year - most people were afraid they'll do badly in Eng Adv and wanted to count their Exts instead. And they're probably right, Ext1 and Ext2 Eng require different skills - independent research and a major focus - as opposed to Eng Adv, which, with the amount of work involved, should be worth heaps more than two units IMHO.

Kool.

Yeah, for me, the amount of work and effort eng adv requires is just not worth it really.

Believe it or not according to statistics the maximum band that has been achieved by Extension 1 and Extension 2 is band 4!

So why bother putting extension 2 english as your best 2 units when u're most likely to get crap marks in english extension course tests.

I thought the highest band for extension subjects -is- band 4.

Yeah, it is. Band E4 is the highest for extension subjects.

You are correct on the highest band achieved is band 4. But band 4 is the highest band. There are no band 5s or band 6s. Extension courses are good to do because they scale you higher than normal adv/stand english.
