Re: The Official Tennis Thread

Seeing Jarka getting double bageled (0-6 0-6) by Bartoli was painful. :( I felt so bad for her too. I wish someone else was playing with her in the Hopman cup other than Hewitt.

Petkovic lost in the second or third round of the Brisbane International.

Tomic seems to be going quite well.

Gadjasova has the natural talent and technique to do well but she keeps bogging herself down mentally. You watch her play and you can sense that she gets quite tense once something goes wrong while in contrast, a lot of the other top players on the circuit move on from the last point and concentrate on the next.

Re: The Official Tennis Thread

Everyone expected a Nadal vs Federer showdown in Doha but both of them were eliminated in the semi-finals!
Federer withdrew from a pre-match injury so Tsonga won by default.
Nadal lost to Gael Monfils.
Looks like it's an all FRENCH Doha FINALS!

Tomic vs Murray? Any chances for Tomic?

He fared quite well in the first set but Murray's experience won the contest.

Quite promising though. He looks much more refined after a good year on the circuit.

I totally agree. His movement is much better and hopefully he can have a good run at the Australian Open.

that will depend on the draw he gets. he's currently ranked around 42. so he could possibly come up against a top player as early as the second round.

Andy Murray! Especially with Ivan Lendl by his side. This is a promising year for him.

until he gets in the habit of playing from the baseline instead of 5 metres behind it he will not beat guys like djokovic, federer and nadal.

I've noticed that Baghdatis has gotten some quite good crowd support against Del Potro.

Good atmosphere.

Hmm, I know what you mean there. I think that's one of the things he's been practicing because while watching his match against Nalbandian, he did move up to net a BIT more, and was actually aggressive at the net for a point. But that is one of the things he has to work on. Other than that, I believe he has a chance at winning this.

Re: The Official Tennis Thread

Li Na is looking good right now, she's in the final in Sydney tonight against Azarenka and is 4-2 against her all time ( i think ). Wozniacki is solid as always so she should be one of the fav's this year, but i wouldn't count out Serena Williams despite her age. As for Sam Stosur, she's inconsistent so i think 4th RD/ QF at best.

For men, i'd reckon the winner will be either Djokovic, Fed or Nadal, wouldn't be surprised if one of them win ( esp. Djo)

Re: The Official Tennis Thread

australian open draw was announced.

federer and nadal are drawn in the same half, so they could meet in the semis and djokovic and murray could meet in the other semi.

Re: The Official Tennis Thread

Well played by Tomic to win Kooyong while being the 8th seeded player in the draw.

I foresee a good run at the Open but with Verdasco as the 1st round opponent, it will obviously be tough.
