Hi

I just want to know, the right hand rule of finding out the direction of the magnetic field on coiled wires?

your fingers curl in the direction of the current and the thumb points to the direction of the magnetic field right?>

so does the thumb point to the north or the south?

definitely north. ur thumb points in the direction of B inside the solenoid. and inside solenoids, B points towards the North pole - North pole spews out B, while South pole sucks in B.

it makes no sense because some text use the conventional current and others use the actual current....

i'm not sure which current you're suppose to use for the HSC....maybe ask your teacher or someone on here might know

but if i remember correctly it is the conventional current

The right hand rule goes for any circular current or magnetic field.
thumb is current and fingers is magnetic field.
OR
thumb is magnetic field and fingers is current.(Point north)
