i've always gotten confused with this... however i now use the second, and use the the first when b and c are classified as 1 thing ifygwim.

i think but now that i think of it, "b and c" opposed to "b, and c" sounds like theyre the same object in the strand

prefer the first one as i treat the comma as a placeholder for ‘and’. so a, (and) b, (and) (and) c is redundant.

Latter when it comes to formal writing but former when its in a casual setting. I mostly use the oxford comma because it doesn't introduce ambiguity into the sentence.

Oh yeah but it also completely depends on the context and content of the subject since adding a comma could also add ambiguity instead.

I use an oxford comma when it's a phrase rather than just a word.

Like, I use "a, b and c", but when it's like "blah blah blah, blah blah blah, and blah blah blah", then you really need the oxford comma there to improve clarity

i think what makes sense the most is "a, b, c".

Like in math, when we write the solutions to an equation, we don't write "x = 1, 3, 5 or 7", instead we write "x = 1, 3, 5, 7"

Though if it had to be one, then "a, b, and c" makes the most sense
