I think Tupac because he had the image and the rhymes.

Notorious BIG was scary to me as a child.

u cant really ask that...who was better. how do u measure it? they both brought stacks to the music world...seriously whenever thers hip hop tours or concerts on, they always talk about both of them, not just one. now that theyv died ages ago, ppl realise that they were both great, and that something like that shouldnt happen again cause its just a waste of talent.

You can measure: who had better songs? who had better albums? etc

The thing with big is that he died early into his career. We only heard his good music, pick a couple of pac's best albums, and I'm sure they'll compare favourably to Biggie's.

You can't compare Tupac with Biggie...

Biggie made commercialised music... targeted at record sales...
Tupac shed light on the poverty in the U.S and the segregation through the eyes of an african american male. Tupac will go down in history... and possibly studied in schools in the future.
As we study poets of the 19th and 20th century.. who described things such as the first world war.. or other things... his lyrics will be studied similarly....

Biggie was just a "rapper" and if he does go down in history.. it'll be as the rival of Tupac...

read the lyrics to "trapped" or "cradle to the grave" or "brendas got a baby" from tupac... you'll see that his lyrics are deep and meaningful... biggie just made commercialised music....

i see so much fucking ignorance in this thread, specially this tool above me.

go listen to ready to die, and then listen to all eyez on me and tell me who the real commericiaised rapper is.

that 'biggie was just a rapper' line you typed, go type that in a hip hop forum, you'll probably be banned for blasphemy, see in this city of sydney, lebos worship 2pac, and around the world girls and teenyboppers worship 2pac so its easy to think 2pac is considered the better rapper...but you look at polls, you look at columns by actual hip hop fans....biggie reigns supreme, and with reason.

and whoever said 'hit em up' was a good diss...dude is just venting and sounds really really fired up, not a good diss at all, just an angry diss. 'lolz omg i fucked ur wife and prodigy has sickle cell lolz i WoN'

biggie shits all over 2pac, real heads know. But teenyboppers love 2pac, worship him as a god, i cant hate on that because 2pac was a great rapper...though biggies SHITS ALL OVER 2PAC IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE...don't believe me, go listen to 'ready to die' and LISTEN to it.

we'll always love big poppa.

I'll quickly analyse some of the lyrics to trapped... and perhaps the other songs later....

You know they got me trapped in this prison of seclusion
Happiness, living on tha streets is a delusion
Even a smooth criminal one day must get caught
Shot up or shot down with tha bullet that he bought
Here he discusses the environment of the institutions... as being secluded and being "trapped"... this refers to the racial segregation... being secluded from society;
In the second line he describes the unhappiness and disgruntled attitudes of the homeless.. notice he said "Living on the streets" Basically this refers to the poverty which they are experiencing... even while living in houses most feel "homeless" some with no food or electricity... or adequate clothing...
In the third & fourth line he discusses the "risks" associated with living a live of crime... and that eventually their fate is sealed with death... In the line "with the bulled that he bought" It emphasises their sealed fate. Like an overdue payment it is reclaimed. As if deserving of the death for trying to escape poverty.

Nine millimeter kickin' thinking about what tha streets do to me
Cause they never talk peace in tha black community
All we know is violence, do tha job in silence
Walk tha city streets like a rat pack of tyrants
In the first line he discusses the risks of "hustling" on the streets... and the hate and violence within the black community..
He explains that the only security is carrying a weapon "nine millimeter" 9mm semi-automatic pistol. He justifies this as a resort of self defence... "Thinking what the streets do to me" this induces the final blow of his statement that without adequate protection he has less chance of survival... as the "streets" which refers to "Gang Bangers", "Corrupted Police" & "Rivals" as he portrays them as being dangerous to him without adequate protection.
In the 2nd, 3rd and 4th line... he reinforces this by stating... the "business" is done in silence... and the lack of education which they are experiencing.. "all we know is violence"... and also the fact that it is safer to be a part of a gang as it bestows more security on the individual.. "walk the streets like a rat pack of tyrants" Which shows the power associated with being apart of a group.

Too many brothers daily heading for tha big penn
Niggas commin' out worse offthan when they went in
Over tha years i done alot of growin' up
Getten drunk thrown' up
Cuffed up
Then i said i had enough
There must be another route, way out
This section of the lyrics describes an important issue which is covered in the HSC English syllabus... (optional)
The effectiveness of institutions... he basically states that the ammount of african americans which are being sentenced to "tha big penn" the peneteniaries. Then he further explains the segregation and innefectiveness of the institutions by stating "NIGGAZ, commin; out worse of then when they went in";

He then attempts to explain their to be "another route, a way out" of poverty other then Crime. For him this was the Music industry.. and he aims in educating the future generation that there is other ways out of poverty.

To money and fame, i changed my name
And played a different game
Tired of being trapped in this vicious cycle
If one more cop harrasses me i just might go psycho
And when i gettem
The idea of "Changing you're name" refers to having a clean start and "a different game" refers to a new career path.
He then states the cycle which forms in the "ghetto's" of the U.S which repeats it self and the further abuse of the corrupted police officers.
And finally the angst which exists. The feeling of being trapped... and secluded.

I'll hittem with tha bum rush
Only a lunatic would like to see his skull crushed
Yo, if your smart you'll really let me go 'g'
But keep me cooped up in this ghetto and catch tha uzi
They got me trapped....
Finally to end this verse he explains the Violence towards authority due to abuse and harassment... And the feeling of being "cooped up" or "trapped"...
In the ghetto and being opressed by the government. He then goes further to explain that he will fight for his freedom with "tha uzi" which is an automatic machine gun.

Chorus
[uh uh, they can't keep tha black man down]
They got me trapped
[naw, they can't keep tha black man down]
Trapped
[uh uh, they can't keep tha black man down]
Trapped
[naw, they can't keep tha black man down]
Self explanatory...

Thats just one verse from one of his songs.

How can you justify that?

Hit em up is often called the greatest rap diss along with ether by Nas. I'm not sure what you're talking about.

I don't know that much about rap, but I know that Biggie in no way 'shits all over 2pac'.

yeh its often called the greatest rap diss....but guess who by....by people who have no clue like you.

ether is overrated too.

anyway you ask teenyboppers who is better, they will always say pac...you ask hip hop fans who is better, the decision is split but the majority usually favours biggie.

end of story.

I like Tupac more - but that's just my personal opinion. It's a given that Biggie was a better MC. The way he flowed to his beats, constructed the rhyme schemes, and his delivery were just insanely good. Biggie had a great sense of rhythm. But come on, Pac's catalogue is way more extensive than Biggie's. Life After Death is quite sub-par to Ready To Die, and was overall not that great - Puffy was taking BIG to a new direction which im assuming BIG did not like.

Anywho, I'm feeling Pac's energy and passion too much. MC wise Biggie is much better ofcourse, but Pac just has somehting which i like more (other than a much larger music selection).
