I get the feeling (as a year 12 student) that USyd has better colleges, more ppl, more academically focused, whereas UNSW is more relaxed, more social, more parties...

And yes by what i have said i have idea idea so please enlighten me...I have absolutely no idea, both have really good cricket ovals :D and good sporting environments (well i think thy do...)

depends what you want to do. why is everyone asking the same question... the answer to these sort of question will always to the same: check out the courses you wanna do! and see which uni has more to offer for your desired course. if they are both eqiually good, then flip a coin dammit!

usyd has a better rep for parties etc

however if unsw might be for you if you're the sort of person who participates in culturally based societies

No.

As survivor said, it depends on what course you want to do.

Yes, but I don't think they accept candidates who write questions like

"which is the better?"
Well i said i use that word "better" very loosely. Im going for Com/law and i think both offer good opportunites with regards to Law and commerce.

In terms of sport, they both again have very good programs and 1st teams. And again with parties, u will get parties wherever u go.

In terms of atmosphere i see a lot of ppl here are cynical about what i mean by this.

Com/Law, well then obviously based on what you have observed you want to go to USYD.

Since all you care about is money, all those parties at UNSW will just distract you.

Disclaimer: Don't take this seriously but wtf is with this sort of topic?

where did the money bit come from??

Basically my choice of unis comes down to atmosphere and sport. As u just said there is an abundance of parties at UNSW but im sure there are heaps at Usyd too.

We'll just see. I havent got a clear picture on what the two unis are about but we'll see...

Being a UNSW student , what will stop me from attending other uni's party?
Being a UNSW student , i don't think it is not academically focused.
Being a UNSW student , i don't feel relaxed enough.
Being a UNSW student , i don't feel socialised enough.
Being a UNSW student , i can still go to usyd and know more people.
Being a UNSW student , i don't play sport nor care about sporting environment.

The point is, it is your personality that drives you, not the uni.

I don't want to compare two unis, so i don't know which one is better.

In conclusion, it depends on what course you want to do (As survivor and moonlightsonata said)

OMG get over it. It doesnt matter. Just like your UAI counts for jack when you get into uni. Just enjoy the uni you are at and stop thinking that some have some sort of magical superiority over others.

Sydney appears to be only marginally better academically than UNSW.
However, they do have a far more influential old-boy network than
UNSW. This may well help you in your early years as a lawyer.
USyd also seems to have more name recognition outside Australia than UNSW.
(Only the ANU and USyd seem to be known outside Oz)

For what it is worth, I am at UNSW doing law and am happy there,
but was going to try transferring to Sydney at the end of this year.

However, I have instead decided to seek a spot at any of the better UK law faculties (Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, KCL, LSE, Durham, Nottingham, Manchester etc )

Parties at USyd and academic at UNSW? Not from what i hear...
Usyd has more of a social life. One cannot argue this by saying 'my friend from unsw goes to parties all the time'. usyd has an amazing social calendar due to the incredible amount of clubs and societies on campus.

academics are very comparable b/w the two. accounting at unsw may be marginally better, but finance at usyd could also be marginally better.

I used to use the Unsw- education/usyd - social argument. Personally, I am a bit predisposed towards usyd as i believe it offers the total uni experience.

But when it comes down to it, what seems to seperate unsw from usyd is the colour of your skin. Most Asians from my school went UNSW, whilst many other nationalities to USYD

UNSW has very high recall in Asian nations. Apparently it's also expanding branches overseas to these nations.
Usyd seems to be more global, though.

Yeah but you're not at uni. I have a friend in comm/law UNSW my year and, by comparison, the social events there are far less frequent and much less fun than Usyd's. USyd law has great parties.

Whilst I haven't been to any out of principle (i hate jocks) Subski has amazing parties. So do many asian societies actually. So does every other society :) I'm running for the social exec next sem on ComSoc, and rest assured ComSoc will have really great events.
