Through textual integrity, King Lear is seen as having layers of meaning, which through various interpretations allows the text to be seen as fragments. It is only when these fragments are put together that a deeper understanding of the meaning of the text can be understood.

Hence, show that King Lear has different levels of meaning by comparing and contrasting two different readings, argue that interpreting the text through a subjective single mind frame i.e. a reading, does not offer a coherent meaning of the text. thus, textual integrity will be acheived when such readings are viewed together. remember to mak reference to the theory of critical readings.

Two points to think about:

1. Consider Shakespeare's plays; they have limited stage directions that allow for the many different productions/interpretations,

2. The many interpretations of the play highlight the plays complexity, however, it also highlights it instability (due to the openedness to interpretation)
