"Why is a magnetic field preferred in television sets to deflect electrons when compared to a uniform electric field?"

I really have no idea.. has it got anything to do with the way they deflect, where a magnetic field causes a circular path whereas an electric field just creates an arc?

Thanks ;)

According to Excel HSC Physics page 106 by Nevielle Warren, it said
A television set is similar to a CRO but is much more sophisticated. Instead of electric fields it uses magnetic fields to deflect the electron beam (the magnetic coils allow for a wider angle beam than would be possible with electric fields from plates) and has two time-base circuits....
Hope that helps.
