Sorry didnt know what forum to put this in but anywho...
for chem we had to do a critical study of an Australian Scientist (not exactilly sure why/ if we were supposed to) but i thing my chem teacher said something bout all sciences needing to do a critical study of an aussie scientist.....
i was wondering if we are supposed to do this sorta study for bio (i didnt see it when i briefly scanned the syllabus).... and if yes... who???

I didn't, our class didn't and it's not in the syllabus so I'd say no.

I have an assignment where we have to identify one practising male or female Aussie scientist involved in research concerning the control and prevention of disease and describe their work briefly.

any ideas as to who?? and where should i look ...none of the uni websites give me any info on their work!!!

you can try to email them... most of them are more than happy to give you a brief overview on their area of research....
