Hey everyone I have been wondering lately whether it is worth staying in standard English or going into advanced. Im not the best English student but I'm probably a bit above average. I have been playing around on the atar calculator and I'm worried that if I stay in standard it will drag my atar down. I got %90 and up I'm physics and chemistry and 85% in extension and advanced maths. If I got 50 in advanced English how would that compare to 50 I'm standard? Thanks

It would be better to get 50% in Advanced then in Standard. This is due to the aligning/scaling aspect.

For most people it would be the same 'hardness'. The only thing that changes is the texts may be slightly more difficult to read/comprehend.

There are plenty of threads on this site addressing the same issue. Advanced is good, don't drop, especially since you will most likely be dealing with unmotivated kids in standard, which isn't a good atmosphere at all. In terms of difficulty, Paper 1 - everyone will be doing the same questions, Paper 2 isn't all that different, except for Mod B which is sometimes harder than Std Mod B.

as i've stated many times before, there is no difference in difficulty between advanced and standard, In standard, markers will have lower expectations on you as to how and what you write compared to in Advanced so say a 12/15 essay in advanced might be a 14/15 in standard.
