so there 2 types of standard deviations xon and xon-1 or something which is for sample SD's
if a SD question pops up how do i know which one to use cos they both have different answers?

Be careful as they may also write it as:

σ (lower case “sigma”) for population standard deviation

σ2 is the symbol for the population variance.

s2 is the symbol for the sample variance.
