hey guys
i need as much info as possible on the sodium doublet syllabus point
i really don't get it at all
it's in chem of art

Where? i can't find a point about Sodium in the Sylabus. All it seems you need to know Chem of Art is the Flame colour.

it's a righthand column thing
"gather and process information
from secondary sources to analyse
the emission spectra of sodium and
present information by drawing
energy level diagrams to represent
these spectral lines"

Ah. its the idea that the first s electron will be easily pushed up and drop back, giving that yellow colour, due to the distance it travels - a long way - from s3 to s5. the other lines are less distinct because the p and d electrons need a shirtload more energy to be pushed up, so less do it. at least thats my understanding, i could have it the wrong way around. oh and the other lines are greens and blue because they only have to travel from d2 to s4, not a long way. i think.
