I am the one
the period of a particle moving in SHM is 6s and its amplitude is 8cm.

Calculate its velocity and acceleration when the displacement is 5cm from the centre of motion.

straight out of the margaret grove book.

could someone do a step by step walkthrough this question please.
(do the whole question please. no half assed efforts)

period T=2pi/n=6 ------------>n=pi/3 Use v^2=n^2(a^2-x^2) where n=pi/3, a=8, x=5. then u sub everything in and u get--------> v^2=pi^2/9(64-25) . which it becomes v=(13pi^2/3)^1/2 velocity= (13pi^2/3)^1/2 For the accerleration=(-n^2)x----------->-pi^2/9.5=-5pi^2/9cm/s^2 Its a bit messy... : )

which book you using? Unless i'm mistaken, you shouldn't be using the Margaret Grove book. mmm, try Fitzpatrick, its awesome for applications of calculus to the physical world. If you don't have it, your local library will, and if that doesn',t then you school library should. If even your school library doesn't have the berloody book, you can ask your teacher, he should have a spare one lying around in the maths staff room.

If even that fails, go and buy the darn book. Its worth it. :)
