OK - having a bit of trouble choosing what to do for my second year of B.Comm. I want to do a double major in Accounting/Finance and qualify for CA and AIBF in the process if possible.

Now, is it possible to fit all of the above into the degree, given the pre-reqs you need to do for CA and AIBF? If so, has anyone got a link to the degree structure I need to follow (read: what subjects I need to do in years two and three)? I can't seem to find it on the UNSW website.

So far i've completed:

Sem 1 - ECON1101, ECON1202, FINS1612, ACCT1501
Sem 2 - ECON1102, ECON1203, FINS1613, ACCT1511

Any suggetions? It's really annoying that the Uni doesn't give you any guidance whatsoever with regards to what courses you should do if you want to get X accreditation, etc, etc.

Also, would be good if the 2nd/3rd year people could give some insight into which courses are interesting and which ones are just plain boring and should be left out of your degree if possible.

Cheers!

there's plenty of info from the handbook
for both accounting and finance, you still have plenty of core subjects to do

Can you point me to the page that gives me the details im looking for above?

I can only see the page where it gives you all the finance and accounting courses you can choose and says you need to pick X UoC worth from each list. It doesn't tell me the specific ones to choose to get the accreditations and the double major in such a small period of time. I don't want to pick the wrong subjects and then have to spend an extra semester or two at uni.

www.aibf.com.au might be a bit more useful if you're not interested in the balloon stuff. And by the way, AIBF no longer exists. In 2004 a merger of the SIA and AIBF was proposed. Merger was successful and the new body is called FINSIA.

From the Accounting/CA perspective:
You should do (well, you have no choice):
1st Sem: LEGT1711, ACCT2522, 2 finance/gen eds etc
2nd Sem: LEGT2721, ACCT2542, 2 finance/gen eds etc

I heard from a friend that next year one of the LEGT courses would be scrapped as a pre-req for CA. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Earlier this year CPA Australia scrapped the prerequsite imposed on Business Taxation (a LEGT Business Law subject). I'm not sure if CA plans to do something similar, although I hope they get rid of Business Entities.
