misfits would be classified as hard punk. Metallica is more hard rock than anything, definetely wouldnt classify them as metal. Best metal bands would easily be pantera and iron maiden.

I would classify Metallica by each album, ie the first 4 are definately metal, black album metal, but leaning towards more rock/radio friendly, load/reload as hard rock, etc

theres no way you can just pidgeonhole them as "hard rock" though..not after their brilliant efforts in the field of thrash/speed metal

i've heard a lot about Strapping Young Lad but never their music, are they any good? I mean, i'm not that into Nu-metal bands.

i've only heard one SYL song.."aftermath" ...didn't sound nu-metalish at all...i think they'd fit in nicely with the other bands listed in the poll
