I guess this thread goes here...

Does anyone know if Rhodes train station has ticket barriers?

I have a weekly Gosford-City ticket, and on my way home from uni I wanted to stop off at IKEA then get back on the train without "breaking my journey" and having to buy another ticket.

Ta :)

My bet is bored CityRail employees. They've even coloured the lines in their respective colours! e.g. the word 'South' is light blue, Western is yellow, etc.

ha yeah right. They're too busy running escort agencies or too stupid to know what a computer is.

Is Gosford -> City only valid via the North Shore Line? Or are you allowed to go via the Northern Line?

If you're allowed to go via Northern Line you can get off at Rhodes and it won't matter if there are barriers or not. Getting off early is fine.

You can go anywhere via anywhere. I could go City to Hornsby via Campbelltown, if a cityrail inspector tried to pick me up on it they'd have to wait until I tried to go through a barrier that wasn't Hornsby before they could fine me, because if I don't the journey's still technically unbroken.

Thanks everyone!

(And to clarify, it was the being able to get back on a train with the same ticket that I was concerned about, rather than being able to get off at Rhodes.)

According to the Wikipedia article, there's no ticket barriers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodes_railway_station%2C_Sydney
(I love going to IKEA! xD)
Yet another lesson in never underestimating Wikipedia, huh?
And IKEA, yes yes yes. I'm moving out of home so I'm pretty keen for the furniture purchasing that may ensue there :) .
Teamed with some garage sale finds of course.

I had a feeling that with the refurbishment complete, it does have ticket barriers. But obviously I'm wrong.

Everyone should boycott trains until Cityrail changes their ticketing system to allow "breaking" of one's journey.

:uhhuh: ... i had a ticket from hurstville to richmond the other day and i really really wanted to get off at central and do some shopping before i went back home. i figured since i had to get off at central/redfern anyway to change lines that it'd be cool...but nooo. stupid ticket barriers.
