One example I always used was the Red Kangaroo.

  • Hot - The Red Kangaroo would lick the inside of it's paws, where the skin is thinner and blood supply is closer to the skin (capillaries). This promotes heat loss through evaporation of the saliva.
  • Cold - When it is too cold, they become more active and as an involuntary response begin to shiver, promoting heat production
Another example is the Frill-Necked Lizard.

  • Hot - When the temperature becomes too hot the lizard will lift it's body up off the hot ground - in order to cool down
  • Cold - The lizard will become less active and will seek shelter underground where it is warmer than surface temperature
Hope that helps
