It's not recommended since it shows the marker that you weren't bothered to find a decent related text and resorted to using a core text.

Don't do it --> at this stage I suggest you use one of the texts from the unseen section of the indpendent or CSSA trial paper. Look at the mark scheme for analysis! this is better than using a standard text

Wait ... In year 11 we did the text MY PLACE by sally morgan , it's a book .
Can I still use it as my related material for year 12 ?
It isn't in the hsc core texts but we did do it in year 11 ...

The external markers won't know that so I think that's ok.

Do this and don't do the other one.

No problem. If you've used this related text throughout the year (in your assessments including trials) and you know it well, then go with it.

The related is actually a different text because if you point out your using the film and you analyse the respective cinematic devices then there really is no issue. The mediums are completely different, different composers and created 11 years apart. Honestly don't worry, you can use it.

Markers will mark your analysis on the merit it deserves and not be too pedantic about your related being a prescribed, but the fact is - it's not a prescribed text, because the prescribed text is the book, and this is the film. Your fine.

Relax, have a glass of water and calm down.

Use the film tomorrow, i'm sure you'll do great!

I used 'Into the Wild' on two previous occaisions as a second related text unknowing it was also a core. I did poorly for those sections.
