hey, my name's nancy too, lol.

erin retreats from the global values of commercialism (P&G company is symbolic of commercialism throughout the movie) and apathy (once again, P&G doesnt care for the individuals who they affect).

erin represents a retreat from global values. compare erin's clothing to the other workers in ed masry's office. she dresses in her own style, and the others dress in a way they find appropriate. she doesnt give a damn. she swears, and acts in a manner that the others find inoffensive. she thus represents a deviation from global values.

have you watched the movie? watch it again and analyse it. look for attributes of the global and local, and try to show how a retreat is represented in the text. pay attention to visual techniques such as clothing and colour. keep in mind that ed masry can be considered both global AND local, depending on the situation.

i didnt use erin brockovich btw, i liked fight club too much.

its a good movie too, so youll be entertained at least.

i graduated last year.

umm what can i say? finding links to heaney is pretty hard. heaney talks a lot about psychological retreat, whereas EB is both physical and psychological.

shipping news is a little better but its still hard. the key retreat within TSN is quoyle obviously, but you could look at other minor factors such as Nutbeem, or Newfoundland itself.

the thing is to establish a thesis (or key idea) at the beginning of an essay and to keep reinforcing the thesis throughout your essay. you do this by stating examples, and demonstrating how they support your thesis.

at least, this is what we were told.

I'm using Harvest Moon, a farming simulator that was on the SNES, and now on the Game Boy Advance. Since Ms McPherson and other teachers (yes, another Sefton dude... *sigh*), students are free to bs about how the game expresses features of Retreat. So sweet.

A game isn't a bad idea at all. One of my friends did FFIX for RftG and I think she did ok. Just make sure you know the techniques in a game and that you have enough to write about.

im going to tell you what ive been telling everyone

these are the key points you should cover

- what is the global?
- what is the local?
- why is there a retreat?
- what are the effects of the retreat?
- how are these represented through language?

manipulate these points to answer the question.. and make sure you have a fair idea of how to define rftg cos you should do this in the first paragraph
