anything by jodi picoult - she mostly does 'real' stories about family, love relationships etc, her book 'My Sister's Keeper' is just being released as a movie
Very true!!! She is one of my favourite authors.

I'll suggest "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I enjoyed it, but a lot of people I know didn't.

'Breath' by Tim Winton is amazing, but very shocking.
'About A Boy', 'A Long Way Down' and 'Slam' are all great, classic Nick Hornby.
