Would someone be able to give me some quick pointers on this topic?

maybe someone who has done it earlier?

just some dot points would be great, and then i can research each of your ideas

sorry this is in shorthand - copy/pasted my notes:

reasons for the end of the Cold War:
- Comm. rule in E. Europe came to an end (1989)
- ideological issue cooled down, old bipolar world => multipolar (Chn, Jap, W. Eu)
- (1989-1991) Summits + Treaties - (Reagan welcomed in Moscw, detente cons., cuts to strategic nuclear weapons, START I)
- 1991 - atempt. coup against Gorbachev => collapse in communist rule, end of USSR
- US's econ. superiority, success of pol. sys. and containment
- Gorbachev's compromises (INF, CFE, START - compromise on long-held Sov. claims)
