When you compared these texts and their contexts, how was your understanding of each text
developed and reshaped?

this is a typical essay question
see how it says "YOUR"

i know this may sound stupid but does that mean we can say "MY UNDERSTANDING HAS SO SO" in our essay , or is it best not to write like that

i think its more to the point that writing an essay (not using 'my', etc), is showing YOUR understanding of it,
as in, the fact that youre actually writing an essay is showing your understanding of the subject. Because its an essay, steer clear of using 'my' etc and instead you make statements, then give evidence of why, and draw conclusions (the normal structure of an essay).
eg statement: the hsc is a bastard (not 'my understanding is that the hsc is a bastard')
why: cos i said so, using blah blah technique
conclusion: the fact that hsc is a bastard, indeed, brings forward the point that it should be cancelled.

i make no sense, ah well. good luck!!
