oh whoops i just realised that the title doesn't have much to do with this post -- i only realised now i'm sorry

this question to previous hsc students out there did 4 u maths:

i just want to know if it's possible to get a 98 in 3u and 4u -- i don't want to aim too high (the lower you aim, the less dissapointed you'll be right)

anyone who's gotten it here? and i mean without having reviewed the course like 5 times over or without having done tutoring
and even if you have done tutoring, and just been doing it with what you do at school

finally, what should your raw marks be? i had a friend who roughly got 71% of the paper last year right and he got 94 aligned. what about a 97 or 98? how many people actually get that mark? is it in the hundreds or just like the top 50

and for bg info -- we had an assessment worth 10%, where i ranked high but didn't come first

thanks

its a lot easier to get a 98 in 3unit than in 4unit,
i'm not sure why u'd want so high for 4unit (i'm not saying u cant do it)
its not gonna add much to ur aggregate from and 98 to 95 u wud only get approximately 2 more points to ur aggregate....

but anyways back on topic, i've heard u wud need around 110 to get a 98 but i dont know much,
3unit, u'd need to get most of the paper with a few errors...

mmm. I got 98. I was accelerated, though I hadn't really done the course before, and I didn't have a tutor.
It's hard to say for 3 unit what will get a 98 because it all depends on the performance of the whole group, though I would say 80/84 would get you close. I didn't actually calculate my raw mark. So I can't help you there.

Just so you know, I got 68/84 in the CSSA trial. So my assessment mark got scaled well. This put be at equal first with two other people. I was first by myself before that.

In order to make sure that your school assessment mark is high you should really be in the top 4, otherwise it probably won't get pushed up that high.

As for 4 unit, I would just recommend trying for a band 6, cause that gets scaled really well. From what I understand, the common mark for 4 unit sits around 90-92 for a band 6, so a mark like 95 (which I got) would drag you out of the group when it comes to scaling, and may prove to be an advantage. I was stoked with this mark.

So, for 4u.
I accelerated the course 1 year early outside of school - but I did rather badly.
Throughout my year 12 I got the following marks in exams:
56/61
45.5/60 <- majorly sick on the day
52/60
102/120
ended up =5th at my school

And I estimate I got about 110/120 for the external.
This led to 98 for both internals and externals.

For 3u, i got
59.5/63
58/60
54.5/60
78/84

Ended up =1st
External exam I think i got 83/84
Ended up with 100 for both internal and external and I got =8th in state. (if i had gotten 1 more mark in external.... I would've been =1st)

I spent about equal time on both 4u and 3u.

holy shit
at school they tell us that if we can get 70% of the 4u paper we'll be fine
and i'm doing the course as we go along, not accelerated or nothing, though everyone else in my class is like up to i don't know mechanics or something at tutor
i just need the marks in maths to make up for my extreme lacking in other subjects e.g. english

btw
I GOT 100 UAI MOTHERFUCKERS. I'M BETTER THAN YOU.
DAMN MAN it must feel good
but shouldn't you be out like partying and not on bored all day
have a holiday

lol
i think a 98 is 3u is a LOT easier than a 98 in 4u
for 4u, a good aim would be 96ish?

Hey, when you put marks into SAM you need aligned marks. How far would the aligned mark for the HSC exam be from the actual raw marks? Because i dont see myself getting 98% raw in 3unit.

i had a mate who failed every single one of our tests, including the tirals by 5 marks - so his raw internal mark would have been ~45%

but he ended up getting 88 internal and external, so yeh

yeah just fuckin work your ass off

finally, what should your raw marks be?

really depends on the difficulty of the paperBut i reckon just aim to do as well as you possibly can, without neglecting your other subjects. Good luck

Nope. You need about 92-93% or thereabout but it really depends on the paper but 92-93% is a rough mark.

I was thinking that I got 80-85% or thereabout, I got 48 = which can be either 95, 96 or 97 when it gets doubled (should be closer to just 96 though)

i'm thinking about a ~78/84 raw in external would give you a 98
(lol it's dead on with namu's prediction)

I am happy when we conform to the same view.

I think 100/120 raw would be closer to a 96, hm.
However your friend may have overestimated his/her performance, it's easy to do so (I know i did... haha)
unless they requested script and self-marked?

Hm....i'm sorta going off topic and on topic to the title hhaha, just wanted to ask wud it really matter if i'm coming last in the class? But our whole class is bunched together as in our marks??? I'm sure i wont get a good mark in 4u if i'm an outlier but im sorta with the whole group, just at the end......
