I'm using a novel for Area of Study as a related text which has an introduction or preface, in which the author is the narrator providing background information about her life, yet I've found some relevant quotes in this part of the novel. However, would I be able to use them as they are not part of the story and aren't from any of the characters' perspective? Would they still count as part of the text?

Did you just ask if a quote within the same book as your related text isn't part of the text?
Wut.

You could refer to them as a part of your analysis, but you can't use it as evidence that the idea exists within the text. Because it's not from in the text.

If the question asks for "at-least 1 related text" should you write a 2nd related text that has not been analysed as well as your other related in the hope of more marks??
