hey i know this a simple question but i was just curious if NaOH is only unsuitable as a standard solution becuase it absorbs moisture from teh air.

is there any other reasons?

thanks.

It's not pure. It can also react with carbon dioxide to form sodium carbonate. So you can never be sure that your sample is 100% NaOH.

Anyway awesome that you've been helping the HSC kiddies out, I've also tried to help them out in the History sections recently. Keep it up.

It is not anhydrous, meaning it can absorb moisture in the air so the mass is not constant. Also NaOH Molar Mass is only 44 g/mol, so if you left a drop, the error percentage would be heaps compared to say NaHCO3.
