you can do whatever you like as long as it meets the requirement in the syllabus of double spacing, times new roman/arial 12 point font, etc.

some people staple. some bind into a hard cover book. some just put those plastic ring things down the side.

supposedly there are no marks for presentation... but the markers, being human (apparently?), are still not going to look favourably on a ripped, scrunched bundle of loose leaf pages.

My school bound everyone's majorworks with that plastic ringbind-y thing (you can have this done at a uni, or at Officeworks). Very nice presentation, easy to flip pages, extremely low chance of pages falling apart etc. Whilst we weren't obliged to make cover pages of some sort, we were encouraged to - and if you're going to bind I suggest you have an blank "end page" as well, both for protection and prettiness (I chose a coloured 'end page' so it was easy for the marker to know when my story finished). I also had a clear plastic sheet over my cover.
