This Module has been a major problem for me throughout the year. I am consistantly pulling band 5's and 6's for my other two modules (Silvia Plath and Halet/R & G), but have been getting scores of 4/20 and 5/20 in powerplay. This has effected my rank and yearly marks, as I am getting marks in the 60's when I could easily be getting high 70's and 80's for my module papers. Now, I am finally starting to grasp powerplay, however I have come across a past exam paper that has me stumped.

"How has your understanding of events, personalities, or situations been shaped by representations in the texts you have studied?"

Can someone explain to me what this question is looking for? What do they mean by "events personalities or Situations been shaped by their representations. "

AND do they want you to refere to events, personalities AND situations or just one of those?

no-one's moved it yet but i'll try answering it here...
it's a fancy-worded question.. - dont' get thrown off by it!!
The markers are looking for the outcomes - how Orwell uses 1984 to represent powerplay - and the question will just provide the framework.

it says OR so it means one.. but in 1984 you have everything - the events like the hate sessions, personalities like big brother, situations in which winston finds himself trapped between conformity and dissension...

aww.. not hot asian guy?? lol

sorry.. i was jus using bits from my essay.
conformity is obedience - which is what the Party demands from all the citizens of Oceania.
but Winston shows dissension - which is moving away from these strict rules and finding his own independence. eg. his affair with julia, his diary, the paperweight, his joining the brotherhood. is that okay? there are a couple of powerplay threads in eng adv. u might wanna look at those as well.

*rolls eyes at boys.

the ethereal beauty of the coral paperweight - from mr charrington's shop. It's a metaphor for winston and julia's relationship - lovely, yet fragile like glass.
