You can get a book at the NSW Art Gallery SHop called Portfolio Preparation, also at the Museum of Contemporary Art Shop for under $30 to help get your portfolio ready.

Lots of practical advice.

OTEN Institute of TAFE also is running a correspondence course in 2005 called Portfolio Presentation for approx $300. Ph 9715 8616 ask for Liese Baker

OTEN is a correspondence/distance education centre for TAFE. It is located at Strathfield near the station. There are no classrooms there. Just a lot of teachers with desks and computers and telephones. The lessons are sent out to you then you send the work back by mail and the assignments come back to you with written comments on them.

Many students do their HSC through OTEN. It is just the same as going to any TAFE college except you do the work at home.

You can also ring your teacher and ask questions and get advice.

Having a course on portfolio presentation is ridiculous in my opinion, works should speak for themselves. I acknowledge the fact that if the work is hard to see in bad documentation etc. it should be a problemo but really, greh, there should be more emphasis on the work itself.
That said, any tips? hehee ;D

You could look at the book.

You need to get a list of what is required by the institution you are applying to. It will say things like 6 works on paper, an artists statement and 4 slides. It will give a date for submission.

Your job is to make sure you meet all the requirements by the due date. This will take planning and timing. You need to know what kind of work each institution is interested in eg the NAS tends to be impressed with great basic skills in drawing, painting. Cofa is more concept driven. Try to find out what each place likes in order to position your work in the best possible light.

Remember each place is looking for students who may be a natural or may work hard to look like a natural and importantly someone who will complete the course and thrive in the environment. Your job is to give this impression

Yes. You apply for Art School before Sept 30 then they invite you to present yourself with a portfolio for selection.

Not much advice around except this book. I got mine at the Museum of Contemporary Art
