The people of Herculaneum suffered a quick death in comparison to the
people of Pompeii who suffered a long and painful death as their lungs turned to cement. Herculaneum was hit by a pyroclastic flow of super heated gases and ash which travelled down the side of Vesuvius at about 100km/h, the people were incinerated instantly...

hope that helps :uhhuh:

Isn't there a new study that suggest that the people of Pompeii died from a pyroclastic flow (something about most of the bodies being in roughly the same layer of pumice)
And the people at the boat shed died from thermal shock

I heard this too... possibly up to 5 or 6 surges through Pompeii.... but I wouldn't worry about it
