Remove C2. C3 and E1! looks like they are relocating about probably half the parking spaces at Macq for half a semester!

Changes to parking arrangements: October 2009

As part of the University's Concept Plan, construction will shortly
begin on the Hearing Hub. Australia's main hearing-related
organisations will use the new hub to collaborate on world-leading
research. Construction work will begin in October 2009 for completion
in 2011. There will be some changes to traffic routes and parking
arrangements, but there will be minimal disruption for staff and
students overall.

As a result of the construction work, we will need to move some car
parking spaces on campus. From October 2009, a temporary car park
will be created on the current site of the Macquarie University Golf Driving
Range. This will replace the existing C2, C3 and E1 car parks,
which will be demolished before work begins on the Hearing Hub.

An enormous amount of forethought and planning has gone into ensuring
your safety, security and accessibility to the temporary car park. For instance:

-- There will be no reduction in the number of parking spaces
available

-- All major pathways leading in and around the car park will be
well-lit, and pathways graded and smoothed for ease of wheelchair
movement

-- Ample disabled and motorbike parking will be available

-- New bike storage will be provided

-- A comprehensive environmental plan will protect and enhance the
riparian zone of Mars creek. No local wildlife will be adversely
affected, nor trees or bushes removed.

In addition, new grass protection mesh technology will ensure the grass
can serve as an effective car park for the duration of the work, and
ease restoration to its original condition after use.

There will be changes to the flow of traffic around the campus during
construction. We will inform all staff and students of these changes
shortly. This information will be made available through the usual
channels as soon as possible.

We will hold a public forum on Wednesday 15 July at 6pm in Building
X5B Room T1 to explain the project and answer any questions you may have.

More information will made available online shortly. In the meantime,
please read through our FAQs below.

It's going to be hilarious walking back from the carpark -- I assume they haven't planned how people are going to walk from the carpark to the university campus. If you look at the .pdf, you'll see that they've only got the road (which is used by cars...) linking the carpark to the uni. Given the number of spaces they're making, they'd have to make a footpath yet another road wide to deal with the huge amount of pedestrians.

It literally looks like that area takes up more space than all the other carparks combined.

Just wandering, does anyone know whether the new changes are now in effect?

I'm sure we can expect an all-student email about it soon. Either that, or an all-student email about something immensely trivial, and not this important issue.

It's not like getting to campus is important, amirite? :/
