For the Individual and Society topic.
we have to find 2 texts (limit of A4 size each), and write a response on each:
1.Briefly outline the purpose, audience and context of each text

2.Explain the relationship of the text to the Focus Topics-social and cultural isolation
- self representation
- changing nature of society

3.Discuss how well the author has used language features and structures in the text to position the reader.

4. Discuss how has the text developed your understanding of the Individual and Society.

i have no idea how to answer these questions (350-400 word responses). I am thinking of doing a leunig cartoon as they always reflect society and individuals but i dont know which to use and how to analyse it. for the other text i might do a song lyric such as "prisoner of society" etc. please help

The problem with doing any cartoon is you can't write heaps about them, as well as images or visual texts, I would suggest you consider another text-type.

yeh but the problem with doing ANY texttypes is that i cant write much for any of them....heres the prisoner of society song, do u think it has anything to do with individual and society?
"Prisoner Of Society"

(one, two) (one, two)
Well we don't need no one to tell us what to do
Oh yes we're on our own
And theres nothing you can do
So we don't need no one like you
To tell us what to do

We don't refer to the past
When showing what we've done
Our generation gap
Means the war is never won
The past is in your head
THE FUTURE'S IN OUR HANDS!

CHORUS Cos I'm a brat
And I know everything
And I talk back
Cos I'm not listening
To anything you say

And if you count to 3 (one, two, three)
You'll see it's no emergency
You'll see I'm not the enemy
Just a Prisoner of Society

Well we don't need no one to tell us what to do
Oh yes we're on our own
And theres nothing you can do
So we don't need no one like you
To tell us what to do

CHORUS

(GO!)

Well we don't need no one to tell us what to do
Oh yes we're on our own
And theres nothing you can do
So we don't need no one like you
To tell us what to do

We don't refer to the past
When showing what we've done
Our generation gap

So we don't need no one like you

Society, Society
Society, Society

If your a visual type of person and can just pick out the part of an image and just write lots, then do it if not, as Riviet said it's kind of hard

who says u cant write a 300-400 word response for a cartoon or image?

things to consider:

-colour
-shape, size
-relative positioning of shapes
-connection of shapes with text
-irony, contradiction
-caricature, humour
-repitition, monotony, monotone
-posture, facial expressions
-the medium used to produce the cartoon (e.g. watercolour, oil colour, digital media, etc...)

but, if you are really really stuck, then either a book cover (like The Ivory Trial) or an A4 printout of an actual ARTWORK would do as well. the same list of things above apply.

i think that its kinda hard to write a good analysis for a song as a lot of the meainng is conveyed through the music.

i looked for the ivory trial and all i found was this cover with a tiny picture in the centre without much detail- that'll be kinda hard to write 300 words on. or maybe i found the wrong book cover?

that song looks quite good. i dont see why u cant analyse it thoroughly, and thats even without the music.

however, i do suggest that you incorporate the aural aspect into it. not all of it, but concentrate on the important parts, like the base, the rhythmn, the atmosphere it creates, perhaps the song goes to a climax - find out the distinct parts in the song that make it stand out.

hope it helps, M.D.

PS: of course, u can always do a poem ;)
