I have just finished my short story for extension english (speculative fiction) Last year i wrote a similar story for the "Gothic" genre and I wrote this one to the same length.
Now that i've finished (its due sometime this/next week) I just realised this years word limit is about half of what it was last year!!!

so now my story is just under 4500 words when it should be 2000-2500! :(
What to do now? I dont think i can effectively cut my story in half. Whats the rules about this story of thing?. The shorter word limit is aimed to help us prepare for the shorter response required in the hsc, so thats the only place i'm being disadvantaged.

Theres nothing about length in the syllabus outcomes so is it possible i can cut it as much as i can then thats it. I'm the only one in this class. Can i try and negotiate with the teacher to let me keep it as it is?

all in all, am i completely screwed?
