We've been told by our current music teacher that part of the course for Music 1 is singing. Is this just for performance? Is there anything in particular in singing we need to do according to the syllabus? I'm a piano player, and although my voice isn't bad, I don't usually sing in music. Not for marks, anyway. So how are we being marked through singing?

Perhaps what they mean by singing is sight singing. Its basically like sight reading except you dont sight read by playing the piano or an instrument but sight read by singing, so as long as you sing the pitch of the note correctly then you'll be fine.

I am certain there is no sight-singing in the Music 1 exam- there's a written part, performance part, and 3 electives. Only Music 2 incorporates sight-singing in the HSC. You'd better check with your music teacher.

Never did any singing in Music 1, let alone be examined on it.

There are performance examinations but on an instrument (or vocals) of your choice.
