The best way to quantitatively do this is as follows right:

Add ammoium molybdate, then ascorpic acid (vit c) turning it a deep blue colour.
Use a spectrophotometer to measure the absorpance and compare this with a standard solution's absorpance that has been treated in the same way. You can then work out phosphate concentration.

Generally >.05mg/L will be high enough for eutrophication right?

And a like 5:1 Phosphate:Nitrate level

Also to detect dissolved oxygen:

You use elctrolysis and the rate of formation of oxygen gas is proportional to the dissolved O2 conc or something? Do we have to know the bloody titration method by heart? I really cbfed :|

Cheers so if they ask us to list how to measure water quality we can do the following:

Turbidity: Tube with the X on it
TDS: Conduction
Hardness: Ca/Mg ions, titrate against EDTA.
DO: Oxygen Sensor electrode/ Titration
BOD: Measure Oxygen, add nutrients, place away for 5 days, re measure/ subtract oxygen.
Common Ions: Ion tests for qualitative. Weigh out PPT for quantitative or can we just say AAS.
