So if your final % say for example is 85.3%, but another student's is 85.2% after all the internal assessments, do these marks both get rounded to 85% when they're sent to the board and thus share the same rank?

or do they stay the same?

Doesn't really matter, rank is only half the story.
Your moderated school mark is decided by the ratio of your internal mark vs total of the cohort. If rounded the two students get the same moderated mark, if not rounded they differ by 0.1%. Insignificant in the end.

so your saying someone ranked 2nd compared to 3rd by 0.1% doesn't really mean much?

Last year, my assessment mark for gen maths was 91.5%, rank 2 was 91.3ish. The top exam mark was 98 which became my internal, rank 2 got 97 for their internal mark.

Since you ranked first it's different. Generally the moderation by ratio only applies to 2nd to 2nd last ranked.
