i just want to put my bit in and say that:

according to JV Beaverstock - the ranks of world cities has recently changed...

Alpha ++ = London and New York
Alpha + = SYDNEY, Hong Kong, Tokyo, etc
Alpha =
Alpha - =
Beta + =
Beta =
Beta - =
Gamma + =
Gamma =
Gamma - =

So go onto Wiki... have a look what it says because.. the ranking of world cities has changed as of last year... but main differences are that Tokyo is no longer one of 'the' major world cities (possible language barrier??) and syndey is positively moving up in the ranks (having been moved up from a beta world city - possbily because we are the first major market to open on a new day :)

*Dominant world cities - New York, Tokyo and London.
Paris is emerging as the fourth soon. But sydney is still a major world city.

Global network-linkages that allow flow of goods and services etc.

Role of global network-economic and cultural authority, influence and articulation that transcends national boundaries, control flow of capital etc.

Relationships between them and urban centres: relationhsips of dominance and dependence eg. world cities dominate in terms of command and control, decision making and in turn urban centres are dependent on world cities for material goods and financial transactions (but world cities are also dependent on urban centres for agriculture, workforce, etc,)

with reference to the global network of world cities, analyse their role & the relationship between them and other urban centres?
