Kinokuniya is basically the best bookstore you will ever know. Hence, answer one would be books of any kind to your liking. However, it is also a Japanese Bookstore, which means their Japanese (and Chinese) sections are very big and of a high standard. If you are interested in Manga there's no better place for it. Their cooking section has a good collection of books focusing on Japanese cuisine. Their stationery section is excellent for high-end pens and other things, as well as the idiosyncratic devices only found in Japanese pencil cases, such as antibacterial rulers. As you said, though, the prices are almost extortion.

edit: actually I need to go kino to get some supplies (as well as that delightful $90 maths book) so if you're going there this week tell me and I can accidentally run into you there
