Do's: Wipe your laptop regularly with a dry soft cloth.

Dont's: # Shower with it.
# Take it with you on the train after 6pm.

whats up with this rule?

donts: id refrain from drinking while using the laptop. if you spill it you are screwed. and even if the keyboard is spill resistant, you might end up with a key that doesnt work or a section of the keyboard that is just plain sticky.

Try to keep it still while the hard drive is spinning... if you shake it around it will eventually break and you will lose everything

Go through charge cycles regularly to ensure longevity of the battery

Most HDDs are resistant to such abuse.

And it depends on the battery, though it is usually sound advice to do what you mentioned.

do: -put porn on it so u can watch it in bed
-by a fan mat thingo if it overheats as some laptop models can get very hot
-get wireless internet to maximise the reason y u got a laptop (portability)

dont: -carry it around u everywhere, just move it around ur house dont be a fuckwit and go "hey i wanna use it on the balconony and then u trip and byebye laptop
-use tissues or cloths to clean ur screen as this will scrath ur screen. instead buy some special anti static wipes which are fair cheap
-buy that plug and play internet shit thats like a USB and u plug it in and can get access anywhere. The coverage on those things are shit apparenly

Do get a case cover (I'm not sure what they're called exactly) - if yours is an Apple then there are plenty available. Same goes for keyboard protectors if you're someone like me who eats while they work. Trust me - I thought I didn't need a case, but now I wish I'd gotten one earlier.

What i meant, was that your prone to thieves when:

1: Your carrying a laptop bag (pretty obvious whats inside)
2: Public Transport (The criminals come alive)
3: After 6pm (Gets dark and entices criminals under the shadow of darkness ,'like the joker')

So no random porn of limewire :(
Limewire, the killer of computers!

plus
Do's:

backup every month

format your computer every 3 months to keep it as good as new (norton ghost to format through bios, windows cd/dvd to re-install windows (MAKE SURE YOUR BACK UP ALL DOCUMENTS)

Use programs to your advantage (learn to use word fully, use Office live to save and share documents, use windows meeting place for study with other people in different places)

Keep it updated

find a good laptop backpack or case (so you can fit everything in)

if your laptop sopports it buy a new second battery (run 2 batterys at once) this was the best 200 i spent, from 3 hours batt life to 12!

buy new battery(s) every 2 years (most batterys slowly die over time [does not hold the charge])

when fully charged remove power cable from computer (slows down the destruction of your battery)

CAREFULLY use the vacume to remove misc objects from under your keys

Get a good virus scanner (i use AVG free, fast, free and does not slow down pc)

oh and have fun :)

Donts:

drop computer

stand on computer

sit on computer

use limewire :bomb:

go onto dodgy sites (you know what i meen )

sleep with computer :)

There you go!

Limewire really isnt that bad. As long as you aren't dumb, you can't get a virus...

If you want a music file, don't download unless its MP3 and its in the 3-10MB range

for videos, mpeg/wmv and at least a few megabytes

only download if there are multiple sources

If you cant play the file in limewire/its corrupted, dont open it outside of limewire (probs a virus)

There's no feedback or comment sections on any downloads, so limewire fails. goodbye.
