Trouble is that senators need to be able to attend a minimum number of sessions which I can't see happening unless his current position changes dramatically.

If a casual vacancy was to arrise his senate seat would be filled by a nominee of his party. You'd still have a Wikileaks Senator. Presumably if and when Assange became able to take the seat, his replacement would resign and the party would nominate him to fill the casual vacancy.

My reaction gif was valid!

I worry about his motivations in choosing to run and whether recognition of his name will automatically bring people to vote for him purely out of a sense of familiarity, rather than voters actually voting in accordance with what the party is running for. Though I guess there are some pretty clear connections between the name and what he stands for.
