I must say I agree with Tenax Propositi. If I had paid my money to join a society, I would demand certain expectations to be met. I would demand the society to TAKE THE EFFORT to directly inform me, and all other members, of what's going on - or even a single email (YES ONE EMAIL) telling me where I can go to get said information. To receive absolutely nothing at all from them is simply unacceptable, and I am now quite glad I did not join.

I may consider membership next year, but my speculation for 2004 has ended. Sorry DebSoc, you just don't try hard enough.

and if you prefer debating at Australs that's cool, but remember this: for a tournament to happen the host university and its people have the invest time, effort and money into it. Australs cannot happen spontaneously without the efforts of DebSoc members. without volunteers doing those "menial tasks" as you call it, there will be no debating/partying/socialising for anyone. if you're just gonna reap the rewards without helping out in some way, then that's pretty damn selfish.

tenax, we only get what we give.
thanks for the moral imperative frigid, but I wasn't demeaning the role of volunteers. I was just expressing my annoyance at the misinformation on o-day that has spiralled out of control to this point. And quite frankly, you know nothing about me so please don't make insinuations about my character.

thank you lexi, that was my point exactly. They noted our email addresses down on O-day so I don't think it's that much to expect. Goodness knows PLSN informs me about every event (dare I say OVER-informs me lol).

well that just improves my perception of DebSoc times 100 LOL they had my email address AND didn't email me unlike other members. Maybe me and Debsoc were never meant to be. (Ok that sounds really sad)

Are they still scouting for teams for Australs, or are the competition places filled?

Australs trials haven't been held yet, i think they're at the end of this month or the beginning of May...I'd say there'd be plenty of places since the high-up committee members probably wouldn't be competing, and if you don't make a team then there would almost definitely be an adjudicating spot open.

and don't mind me and frigid getting a little defensive, it's a 'family' thing...I can understand you guys being peeved about not being informed, but all I got was the o-day handout thing, which told me trials dates and the msn group address to get details from, and I didn't think there was anything wrong with that. But I'm gonna stop there because the last thing I need is another debate right now...

Haha, I know what you mean about not needing another debate. I've been an active debater for years, and if there's one thing we all learn very quickly it's that you can only argue so much before you get sick of it.

Adjudication is a pretty spiffy job, if you know what you're doing...maybe I will join up after all. Someone link me to the page?

NB: before someone quotes what I said above about terminating my speculation, recall that the best men must always be open to opinions voiced after their own, and be prepared to consider them.

I joined at o day and didn't even get a handout with any info on.... nor an email about easters, so like tenax I was a little peeved, and can understand why he is peeved.... I also joined debsoc to debate....

I don't think I will be in Sydney when Australs are on anyway, so I guess I will maybe consider debsoc again next year.....

Seeing as you're a fellow law student, I'd suggest you join the law society... i am a satisfied customer so far :) lol

btw, what's your major for comm?

I'm doing info management...quite boring...am kicking myself that I didn't put pub comm as my first pref but oh well, apparently info gets better next year!

Everytime I go to the LSS office it's closed...and the one time I could reach someone on the phone in there, they had run out of tickets for the law cruise!!! I still want to join though, is it open in the hols??

bizcuts....LOL, bloody joke! wasted yet another 10bux...maybe we should start a club called the ripoff club, at least that will describe wat goes on in the club

ALRIGHT. I'm defending BizCuts! It rocks!

First: http://clik.to/bizcut

That's the forum, and in the coming weeks we're hoping to set up a website that members can access for special resources and to most obviously - keep in touch!

Unforunately, what's happened has been that BizCuts was founded last year by students that were all graduating last year ... so this year, there isn't anyone on Campus!

Furthermore the BizCuts email in getting in contact with members is via yahoo!, so when BizCuts tried to send out an email to everyone on their list - UTS rejected most of it as spam ... and since most people give their UTS email addresses as the contact, a lot of people weren't contacted.

As for what BizCuts has done - there has been a pub crawl, a BBQ with lots of good food and drinks and a picnic on Easter Friday where we wreaked havoc in Darling Harbour and had a fun time playing soccer, riding the merry-go-round (... Yes that was me.), touch footy and cards to name a few things! Plenty of food too ... food is important to us :p This picnic also consisted of an AGM, where the new committee were voted in ... most people should've received a notice of this.

Lastly I'd like to say a huge apology for anyone that has joined BizCuts and felt like they've been ripped off their $10! No no no! We're trying to still make contact with all the members and up coming we're having a cruise (Which society doesn't these days? But ours will be great!) and also some corporate seminars - particular interest for older years that are considering up-coming employment.

With this years committee we have everyone but the President on campus, however the president is in constant contact with the Vice Presidents and is definitely very very committed.

If you do have any queries about BizCuts ... drop a line at:

bizcuts_box@yahoo.com

Once again, a huge sorry on BizCuts behalf! It exists and is going to come to life in 2004!!! and sorry for any typos I made, I'm good at those!
