i havent found one person who is doing actuary and LIKES it...
a first year actuary kid is the same as any other kid doing a business-related degree, with the exception of one or two statistic units.

The only two people I know who did actuarial/law changed to finance/law after two years. The few actuarial students I know struggle with maintaining a good work/life balance. Combining law and a part time job with an actuarial degree will most likely burn you out after two years unless you are very driven. If you want to do something maths based I suggest that you look at ANU's economics, maths and logic courses (which are all very good) rather than going down the actuarial route.

From what everyone is saying, it seems like the combined course is pretty pointless really. I guess I like the double degree because it makes you more employable... I don't know, but unis offer combined degrees because there's a demand for it right?

it's pointless because it's two essentially specialised degrees.

it's like doing aeronautical engineering and arts. totally pointless other than for self interest.

A law degree looks really good on paper even if its not relevant.
A lot of people I know want to head into investment banking so they do comm/law. Even though commerce degree is really all they need.

True but you'd get alot more people with commerce trying to get into IB than those with actuarial backgrounds (or so I'd imagine).
