My story deals with belonging and not belonging, as well as personal belonging and belonging to a place, so maybe I might be able to dump and run? xD One can hope~ :D

Oh yeah, is it fine to add textual excerpts in the story? Like I made up a blurb of a book and inserted that in my story.

Yes- way too long - you need to leave time to adapt to the specific stimulus + its probs better to finish the creative in under 40 so you can spend longer on the essay. So unless you can write 1300 words in about 35 minutes after making slight adjustments mentally, its too long

1300 words is far too much for a creative.
Creative should be approx; 900 - 1000.
Your belonging essay should be; 1000 - 1150.
Well that's what I've been told.

What's a good length to go for? I reckon I can reduce it to 1100 words easily. Anything past that will be a matter of word hunting. :S

EDIT: oh thanks unique :D

Yes, 1300 is too long. Aim for 900 because... that's how long they usually are. Plus if you can write 1300 in 40 minutes, then... your arm will be killing you by the end of your essay.

750-900 is the optimal quantity you should be able to write in 40 minutes, 1300 is way too much for a creative.

Creative is all about quality and perfection, that comes with some that is very simple and lucid to understand for the examiner, plus it has powerful meaning and linkage to the concept of Belonging.

900-1000 should be good, to allow for extra words for adaptation on the day just in case. Personally mine was 1030, although after a lot of time reading it over and over again + writing it out, I could write it in exactly 30 minutes... yeah, best to get it out in 30-35 minutes, as an extra 200 words won't make much of a difference to a mark for the creative section depending quite simply on your writing style, language and ideas conveyed, but can make a big difference in the essay section.

about 2 pages perhaps then? i mean im a slow writer but if i give quality over quantity over 2 pages in 4 minutes, i should be good right?

Personally i dont see the need for it to be more than 8 or 900 words. Mine is about 800 and can almost guarantee me 14/15 each time, leaving me ages to write my essay as i can polish off creative in about 25 mins.

^^ I totally agree with Kieran95. The creative piece doesn't need to be long at all to score top marks. If you're spending longer than 45 mins on the creative then you're probably writing too much. As everyone's writing speed is different, maybe think about time allocation rather than amount, as the creative unit just needs to show that you can write cohesively, clearly show belonging/not belonging, and use the stimulus. :)

That's probably on the low side. Aim for 800 at least.

900-1000 is always a good length, should give yourself some time to think about adapting your creative + also your belonging material for the essay. + don't forget Q(e) of short answers takes at least 10 mins to answer.
