Can some1 give me an idea of what the assessments for these courses are like (egs tests, assignments, speeches) and how difficult they are?

I can give you more than an idea if you want. 
But assessments may change from year to year and may differ between streams.
Microeconomics
1. Mid-semester test 1 - Weighting 20%
2. Mid-semester test 2 - Weighting 20%
3. Final examination - Weighting 60%
The mid-semesters were average difficulty (M.C. was straight fwd, but short answer questions answered poorly by everyone in both mid-sems). I can't remember what the final exam was like. It's not one of the hardest subjects you'll get, all you need is to revise during stuvac and make yourself good notes so that you won't flunk out the short answer questions. If you get de Roos, his lecture notes are very comprehensive so I just wrote my own notes in the margins from the textbook and did some HW from time to time. I ended up getting almost a HD, 2/3 marks short from what I recall.
Macroeconomics
A little bit harder than Micro, because of the nature of assessments.
1. First Mid-Semester Exam - Weighting 15%
2. Second Mid-Semester Exam - Weighting 15%
3. Tutorial Papers - Weighting 20%
4. Final examination - Weighting 50%
Many people did badly in the first mid-sem because of the essay section. The averages improved dramatically by the 2nd mid-sem. The tutorial papers were marked quite hard and were alot of work for 10% each. I found the finals more difficult than I would've anticipated. Up to the finals I would've thought I had a fighting chance at topping it, however I ended up with a mid-range D. Screw finals being worth 50%.

Thanks for the reply Lainee - you've been very helpful
At least there are tangible answers unlike macro, and he at least taught us what we were required to know unlike Atta. So I prefer the lecture notes that actually cover the content as opposed to the half finished notes atta posted constantly and his random obscure questions... thx.

I didn't have Atta, but I did hear that his exams were painful. I had Catherine Roc who would be one of the better lecturers. Her lecture notes were too brief for me, but she did explain things really well and she made attempts at humour which are a plus in my book.The perfect eco lecturer would be a cross between Catherine Roc and de Roos.

Both ECON1001 and ECON1002 are not very difficult, certainly not beyond the range of your average HSC Economics student..sure, many students have difficulty with the two subjects but many students have difficulty in every course..
De Roos is not a bad lecturer provided you don't have the attitude of 'teach me!' rather than 'how do I teach myself?'

In the handbook it says we have to go to two eco lectures a week, but does it mean one 2hr lecture? Because Im looking at the timetable and there are eco lectures every day...so how do we know that we won't turn up to the same lecture twice?
dont worry. It's a 1 hr lecture twice a week.
they put you in streams in your timetable and you attend your stream. It's pretty easy to remember. Like 3pm on tues and weds. or 10am thu and fri. Not difficult.

Any slides with auto-formatted backgrounds (the majority), were downloadble with that password thingy that came with the textbook. Hence, the definitions on the lecture slides basically being carbon copies from the textbook.Lainee said:
