Hello. I just want to know how can I connect to the Internet using a laptop with a built-in modem or network card? Do I still need an Internet Service Provider (ISP)? I am a newbie on this stuff, and I will really appreciate it if you could give me some insight. Thanks

You can connect to the internet with:
Dial-up using your phoneline
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) using your phoneline with a filter
Cable using the pay-TV cable network
Satellite using a satellite dish
There are probably more ways but meh.

Yes, you need an Internet Service Provider (ISP). That's the whole idea of an ISP, to provide the internet to you!

If you connect it to another network (via a cable or wireless card), you can use it's internet.

If it's going to be standalone, you can connect via the methods above (although if you wanted broadband you'd probably need an external modem).
