Andy Goldsworthy is my favourite artist
Other good ones to mention are
Pollock
Van Gogh
Warhol
Whitley

But they are all pretty similar, except maybe Van Gogh, because they all died alcohol/drug related deaths (i think) - and we know a certain artist who had a chop at his own ear. So maybe they arent interesting cause they fit a 'crazy, drug-abusing but genius artist' stereotype. Maybe find some artists who are 'clean', no drugs/booze/meat lol.

I agree, Goldsworthy is great. But he's NOT dead, and I can't imagine him ever dieing of an alcohol/drug related death. He's a very calm and collected kinda bloke.
For HSC essays, I advise that you guys know a wide range of artists. That is, different movements and time periods. Especially for the frames questions (which are by far the easiest, in my opinion). Knowing about 10 artists well (and being able to cite and critically comment on 2-5 of their works) will be a very solid preparation for the HSC exam. Knowing the really famous artists is obviously important (e.g. Duchamp, Picasso, Manet, Pollock etc etc), but it is also impressive to markers if you can squeeze in a few recent (last 10 years) ones to show you've done some independent research. Combining this with critical analysis and unique, supported opinions will get you top marks - guaranteed.

Last years exam was incredibly easy, I'm sure you 2006ers will do just fine

Similar, Banksy and Miss Pink... there are some pretty good articles on the net about graf. + street and stenciling, so it's always a good bet, i think.
Chistopher Shy- comic illustrator for mostly independent stuff (coheed and cambria graphic novels)- uses CG alot.

Marcel Duchamp, Bill Henson, Mike Parr and Kathe Kollwitz....

We've done heaps more but these are the ones ive done in the half yearly and the trials and stuff so they;re my artists of interest

this is just my point of view...

but i dont like Gordon Bennetts work.
he has just appropriated
Vincent Van Goghs "Bedroom at Arles" 1888.

in otherwords...
its just like a rip off of it.

and i mean look at Bennetts "Notes To Basquiat" series..
the style of work is EXACTLY the same as Basquiats and it faces the same issues.. even some of the images are the same...
what the hell man!!

I dont find bennett to be original and i dont really like his work.
Be bold with it...
and take art were it hasnt gone before..
not just appropriating others.

Art is about expression.
doing things differently... thats what art is..
Doing things that havent been done before...

Bennett doesnt do that.

Not sure if anyone's already mentioned these artists, but I absolutely love the art of Egon Schiele. Gustav Klimt, his mentor, also has an amazing style.

I reckon Del Kathryn Barton, who just won Archibald this year, has pretty awesome work too.

Instead of looking at all of the big artists that are done to death try looking at some of the less known (or less known in the HSC) artists in different genres or areas.
Banksy is a great place to start and he is really easy to talk about in terms of appropriation, culture, the postmodern, politics etc. Worth a look even if just for some entertainment,
